Blue Leg Pistol Shrimp

Scientific Name: Alpheus sp.

Pistol shrimp snap a specialized claw so fast it creates a loud popping sound, which they use to stun prey. Many pistol shrimp live in a burrow with a goby partner. The shrimp digs and maintains the burrow while the goby stands guard.

Care: Needs a sand bed to dig in. Pairs best with a watchman or other shrimp goby. Reef safe, but may eat very small shrimp, and will rearrange sand around its burrow.
