Armitage Angel

Scientific Name: Apolemichthys armitagei

The Armitage Angelfish is a natural hybrid between the Three-Spot Angel (A. trimaculatus) and the Indian Yellowtail Angel (A. xanthurus), found in the Indian Ocean. It shows traits of both parents, and every one looks a little different.

Why We're Obsessed

Natural hybrids are my favorite kind of rare. Nobody made this fish; the ocean did. Armitages show up so rarely that most hobbyists never see one in person. When one comes through, it's a true collector's piece and a story fish for any tank.

Care: Reef safe with caution (may nip LPS, soft corals, and clam mantles). Semi-aggressive toward other angels. Feed a varied diet with sponge-based foods, mysis, and quality pellets. Max size about 10". Minimum tank size: 125 gallons.
