Abalone

Scientific Name: Haliotis sp.

Abalone are flat, ear-shaped snails with a row of holes along the shell, and a colorful, frilly foot. They're one of the best algae-grazing snails you can get.

Why We're Obsessed

Reef-safe, rare, and a holy grail invert. My personal favorite cleanup crew. Abalone graze film and hair algae nonstop, and they look awesome doing it.

Care: Reef safe. Needs a mature tank with plenty of algae to graze; supplement with nori if needed. Sensitive to low oxygen and copper. Will stick tight to rock and glass; don't pull them off.
